LASCAR VOLCANO (5.592M.S.N.M)

It is the most active volcano in northern Chile with a record of close to 30 eruptions from the 19th century to date. It is a stratum volcano with 6 craters, the central crater being the one that emits large fumaroles that can be seen almost every day. The normal ascent route of Lascar is located 110 km southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, on the way you pass through the beautiful Legía lagoon located at 4,300 meters above sea level and depending on the time of year, it is inhabited by James flamingos during spring and summer, among other birds. From the hotel to the base of the volcano, (4,900 masl), it is about 2 hours and a half on the way. The ascent is along a well-marked path, about 2 and a half km to the main crater of the volcano (5,492), and optionally one of the summits can be accessed by a trail of about 400 meters, which reaches 5,592 meters above sea level. The average ascent time, depending on the physical conditions of each person, is 2 to 3 hours.
